Landing an internship today is unnecessarily complicated and time-consuming. We've been taught the "right" way to approach our job search is to submit our resumes to 50+ different job sites, cross our fingers, and pray for a response (which usually never happens).
Why does this never work?
We've been listening to the wrong advice from adults who don't understand how to job hunt in the 21st century. This book will show you how to land your dream internship in a proven and systematic way. How to Land Your Dream Internship is designed for the busy young person (like you) to achieve your career goals without the frustration.
After experiencing six awesome internships that have greatly changed my life, I want to share this knowledge with you. This book is everything I know from my own internship experiences, interviewing career experts, and helping young adults one-on-one land sweet opportunities.
This book ain't full of theory. It's raw, actionable, and full of advice that has already been tested with several students. The young people I've mentored have gone on to intern for creative companies like DreamWorks, reputable companies like Facebook, and startups across San Francisco.
Whether you're a self-directed learner, college student, or a recent graduate, this book is your blueprint to gaining real-world experience while avoiding all the struggles I had to go through. Listen to it and take action.
How to Land Your Dream Internship Proven StepbyStep System to Gain Real World Experience (Audible Audio Edition) Tam Pham Books
There are few moments where you read a self-help book and remark at how much you actually learn and realize how applicabile the information is. This book is a great example of curated and organized advice that I would recommend ANYONE who's trying to get their foot in the door, or "side doors" as you'll read in this book, should read.As a First-Gen student, the only advice I could receive was the general body of knowledge offered at UCSB's Career Services Center and my own working experiences.
Now, after already going through the pitfalls and successes of applying to internships as a 4th year/graduating senior, all the lessons I have learned have been nicely summarized in this book. There was also there were also plethora of PRACTICAL experiences and tips, discussing topics such as email etiquette, branding yourself, marketing your LinkindIn, importance of having your own website, internship sites that aren't just internships.com, etc that I myself started to learn about despite my years of experience doing it myself.
It wasn't the Topics themselves that made the book great but the Nuanced advice the author offers that no one would usually share or even know about in the first place.
My only critiques would be the long emails he recommends sending during your post-interview follow-up where he advises that you mention the informal connections you made during the interview, in the email. As important as I think creating a connection with your interviewer is, I think mentioning things like your shared love for the GS Warriors could lengthen and fluff up your email. This can be an issue in today's age where people want get info as direct or as quickly as possible. Just me opinion though.
Also this man said to celebrate your big wins with Taco Bell. No. Just no. Almost gave this 4 stars for that sole recommendation. Find a shop with a number in the name and go get real Mexican food.
Despite this mans poor taste in fast food, I would highly recommend buying this book. He gives a lot of great advice, offers a lot of insight into apps, sites and the internship process, and is a valuable read for anyone trying to get a tangible leg up in the work force.
10/10 would recommend.

How to Land Your Dream Internship Proven StepbyStep System to Gain Real World Experience (Audible Audio Edition) Tam Pham Books Reviews
Similar to Tam's first book "How to Network", "How To Land Your Dream Internship", is an extremely insightful and entertaining read highlighting the simple truths of growing up and finding your place in the competitive world. Young people are constantly bombarded with advice on what the right thing to do is, and what decisions to make in order to be on the path to success. Turns out, everyone is different, and people drown out their own strengths just so they can look appealing to certain recruiters. Screw that, you are unique in many ways, showcase it! I love how my man Tam acknowledges this notion, and how he also reiterates that there really isn’t one way of doing things when looking for employment or experience. Use the book as a guide in which you refer back to, especially if you are like me and thrive on jumping from internship to internship. The biggest takeaway for me is that the real world is all about relationships and how you convey yourself. If you are honest and genuine in your pursuits, you will be surprised where you can take yourself. Read the book, keep the book, use the book. You shall succeed.
This book definitely covers all bases in finding an internship. It's probably best when read in conjunction with Tam's other book, as he mentions in the networking section, but this work definitely stands on its own. As an incoming college student, I've heard a lot of times that internships are a good thing to have for resume building, experience, enrichment, and job opportunity, but I've never really heard or seen a detailed explanation of how to get one. The people who'd tell me that internships are good to have would just say, "I don't know, just know somebody," when I'd ask them how to get an internship if it's so important.
Tam really puts focus and clarity into his explanations of the avenues with which to get your foot in the door, the ways we should approach things and present ourselves to be successful (resume, online presence, interview, cover letter). For me, reading through this felt like I was having my questions answered before I even knew exactly what to ask. Tam manages to be concise but also puts a strong personal touch into the book, with anecdotes from his own life and advice from people he's spoken with. The conversational writing style also makes this book a very easy read.
Ultimately, this book was very informative, about a lot of stuff I didn't even know where to begin with! I think it really is important for college students and young people to read this, because it's a great place to get information on internships and networking, especially for those who have no idea where to start.
Tam pulls back the curtain on the transition from student to professinal with strategies and mindsets to have that makes the process feel within reach and exciting!
I love his book. It gives you awesome practical advice instead of just the basic stuff everyone else is telling you to do. I've been telling all my friends about it everytime the topic of landing a job/internship comes up.
If anything, and you hate it, guess what, it's as cheap as your Starbucks, but will give you better returns than a caffeine and sugar rush.
This is by far the most helpful book on not just internships but more importantly all of the advice apply to getting your dream job as well. Tam Pham has put together a concise set of instructions to accomplish achieving goals. His book is exactly what one needs to get their dream internship and dream job. I would recommend this book as mandatory reading for high school and college students. Frankly it should be required reading for anyone looking for a job or their next job.
There are few moments where you read a self-help book and remark at how much you actually learn and realize how applicabile the information is.
